Pizza and more Pizza

Pizza and more Pizza

Okay, it’s true.  I like pizza.

No, I actually really like pizza.  If you are following me on FACEBOOK or INSTAGRAM you probably already know that.  But seriously, I don’t actually eat as much pizza as you think. It actually started as a bit of lark.  As I started to use social media I didn’t want to post pictures of the family or myself, and since I was traveling quite a bit for work I thought I would post pictures of places where I was visiting and of course, eating pizza.  Not sure I have had too many bad examples of pizza.

This city has so many great places to visit. I tend to stay away from the chains however there is a local place near the condo that has pretty good pizza. https://www.martinokitchen.com/  It’s not wood fired but simply good pizza for the price.  Of course you can go to places like https://www.terroni.com/ and get nouveau riche pizza. They are very popular and there is an excellent place a stones throw from the tennis club and it’s always busy.  It’s very good and they have one interesting rule - they won’t serve you the pizza in slices.

One of the new kids on the street is https://www.eataly.ca/  We’ve been waiting for them to open for years and now that they are here we’ve visited a few times but it’s simply too busy to fully enjoy.  We did manage to get a seat at the counter when it first opened and it was quite good and I would highly recommend it but better to go early or during the week to avoid the crowds.  I’ve eaten pizza many times at https://www.eataly.com/us_en/stores/chicago/   I would often be in Chicago by myself and I don’t mind going to the counter and eating alone.  I guess that sounds a bit weird but so be it. I’ve eaten pizza in Chicago, Barcelona, Athens, Montreal, Ottawa and so many places I can’t recall them all.

Bar

I recently retired and so a group of colleagues came up to Toronto from Chicago and I picked out a place I’ve never been to called http://www.buca.ca/king.html . And of course I choose pizza.  This one was rather unique as the shape of it was quite different.  They even brought out a huge pair of scissors to cut the pizza. No doubt it was more expensive than what I’m used to but it certainly was good.

cafe diplomatico

And no story would be worth its while without mentioning a local favorite affectionately known as the DIP. http://www.cafediplomatico.ca/  Nothing fancy but true simplicity, good food and good service without a lot of pretension. If you find yourself in the Big Apple (NYC) your choices expand.  The last time we were there we decided to line up at a very famous takeout joint called http://www.johnsbrickovenpizza.com/   Take out only and the line sure moves slow but it was worth the wait.

john's Pizza

If you're up in the Times Square/Broadway area you have to go to https://www.johnspizzerianyc.com/ .  It’s on W 44th Street, very close to all the major theatres and it’s perfect to go to after the show.  I took Ms. Sarah there last year after we saw To Kill A Mockingbird. Outstanding pizza.

So, that’s it for now.  You will continue to see lots of posts of pizza and soon to come wine and coffee.  I bet you can’t wait!

ciao
